Sending a friend a note on one of the O Happy Day postcards will not only brighten their day, it will increase awareness of, and raise much needed funds to support depressioNet!
'O Happy Day'`Postcard Project - another inspirational 'people like us' story...
The "O Happy Day" - Postcards for Happiness depression awareness and fundraising project was originally conceived as an art competition by Jacqueline Gwynne, artist and depressioNet supporter.
The aim of the competition was to both increase awareness of depression and to promote the depressioNet service to a broader community.
Artists were invited to create a post-card picture and message to "reach out with a positive message", thus forming the basis of a national exhibition and promotional campaign. Over 100 post-card entries were received from artists, schools, design students and other 'people like us' from throughout Australia.
The six winning entries in the competition have been turned into a set of six postcards, each displaying a positive image and message, that all can purchase to give or send to people we care about and brighten their day.
Jacqui saw this project as a way she could do something practical to make a difference in the lives of other people who live with depression, and with much determination and persistence and help from other people like us who were inspired by Jacqui's commitment, dedication and perspiration, the 'O Happy Day' - Postcards for Happiness were launched launched on 4th April by Mr Steve Gawler, CEO, Frankston City Council at the Frankston Arts Centre
From the 'O Happy Day' Launch media release...
"O Happy Day" - Postcards for Happiness has attracted national interest with support from internationally acclaimed artists, celebrities and politicians at a State and Federal level.
"Depression is very common but still a taboo subject", said Jacqueline. "Mental health issues affect the majority of the population at some point in their lifetime. This project aims to raise awareness about mental illness, specifically depression, while also raising much needed funds for depressioNet. It also promotes the simple ways that people can care for others and change their day"
Six finalists in the competition have been selected from the entries received, with their designs packaged as a set of six postcards.
The sets are available for purchase for only $6 per set (plus postage) from the depressioNet online shop, with all proceeds going toward supporting the vital 24-hour services of depressioNet.
depressioNet would like to thank Frankston Arts Centre, a business unit of Frankston City Council, for their valuable support in hosting and sponsoring the'O Happy Day!' launch and initial exhibition as part of the Arts Access project, funded by Vic Health's Audience Access Scheme.
